Founded by Regina Lane, The Vanguart Performing Arts Foundation serves as an artistic front line for Black expression, offering a stage for African-American artists to tell powerful, often untold stories. Since 2019, The Vanguart has provided space for meaningful productions like The Exonerated and Shaking the Mess Out of Misery, and this year, their summer season continues with Pieces of Us, the final play in LàCharles Purvey’s “Pieces” trilogy.

“The purpose of starting The Vanguart was to create and promote opportunities for African American artists,” Lane explains. “We wanted to make sure we had a stage here in Oklahoma.”

Performing in partnership with venues like Heritage Hall, The Vanguart offers a “Black Carpet Experience,” featuring visual artists and creating a welcoming space for audiences. Lane’s hope is to engage the community in open conversations, particularly around mental health, resilience, and family.
